What is XML Sitemap Generator?

A sitemap lists the URLs you want search engines to know about. It helps discovery, particularly for pages that are not well linked internally. It does not make pages rank and does not guarantee indexing.

If your site runs on WordPress, Next.js, Shopify or most modern platforms, it can generate a sitemap automatically and keep it current. That is better than a static file, which goes stale the moment you publish anything new. Use this when your platform cannot, or when you need a one-off list.

Include only canonical URLs that return 200 and are indexable.
Leave out anything noindexed, redirected or blocked in robots.txt.
Keep each sitemap under 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed.
Set lastmod only where it is true; a false date is worse than none.
Regenerate whenever the site structure changes.

Frequently asked questions

Should I set priority and changefreq?

Google has said it ignores both. They add bytes and imply a control you do not have. The tool defaults to leaving them out.

Can it crawl my site to find the URLs?

No, deliberately. Crawling means hundreds or thousands of requests to a server, which an anonymous free tool should not be doing on request. Export the URL list from your CMS or a desktop crawler and paste it here.

Does a sitemap guarantee indexing?

No. It helps Google find pages. Whether they get indexed depends on whether Google judges them worth indexing, which is a separate question entirely.
