<!-- Open Graph --> <meta property="og:type" content="website" /> <!-- X / Twitter --> <meta name="twitter:card" content="summary" />
Paste these inside the <head> of your page.
How to use this tool
- Fill in the title, description and image URL you plan to use.
- Check each network — they cut the text at different points.
- Copy the tags into your page head.
- Use the Open Graph Checker afterwards to confirm what is live.
What is Social Share Preview?
Open Graph tags decide what a link looks like everywhere outside search. Without them, platforms guess — and the guess is usually a badly cropped image and the first sentence of your navigation.
The differences between networks are worth knowing. LinkedIn shows the title and image but not the description. WhatsApp uses a smaller square-ish card. Facebook cuts the title at around 88 characters, X at around 70.
Best practices
- Set og:title, og:description, og:image and og:url on every page.
- Use an absolute https URL for the image; relative paths are widely ignored.
- Size share images around 1200 x 630 pixels.
- Keep the title under about 70 characters so it survives on every network.
- Refresh the cache in each network’s debugger after changing tags.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the real card look different?
Two usual reasons. Caching — Facebook and LinkedIn hold tags for days, and their own debugger tools force a re-fetch. Or the tags are not actually live on the page, which the Open Graph Checker will confirm in a second.
Do I need separate Twitter tags?
Usually not. X falls back to Open Graph when card tags are missing. Add them when you want a different image or headline specifically on X.
Do Open Graph tags help SEO?
Not directly — they are not ranking signals. They affect whether shared links get clicked, which is a real benefit by a different route.
