Meta Description Generator

Generate meta description options from your keyword, main benefit and call to action. Each one shows its length and whether it will fit in a search result.

Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded

These are templates, not AI. They arrange your inputs into patterns that read well in search results — edit the wording before you use one.

What the reader gains — the reason to click

What this tool does not do: These are fixed templates rather than AI-written copy. Edit the wording before you publish it.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter your primary keyword.
  2. Add the main benefit — the reason someone should click.
  3. Add a call to action, or leave it for the default.
  4. Copy a suggestion and edit it into your own voice.

What is Meta Description Generator?

A meta description does not directly affect rankings. What it affects is click-through rate: it is your one chance to make the case, in your own words, in the search result.

Google rewrites descriptions for a large share of results — commonly cited figures put it around two thirds — usually to surface text that matches the searcher’s exact query. Writing a good one still matters, because it is what appears when Google does use yours.

Best practices

  • Aim for 140 to 158 characters — long enough to be persuasive, short enough to survive.
  • Include the primary keyword naturally; Google bolds matching terms, which draws the eye.
  • Lead with the benefit, not with your company name.
  • Include a clear next step, but avoid sounding like an advert.
  • Write a unique one per page. Duplicated descriptions across a site are a wasted opportunity.

Frequently asked questions

Is the meta description a ranking factor?

No. Google confirmed years ago that it is not used for ranking. It influences click-through rate, which is a different and still valuable thing.

What if I leave the description blank?

Google will generate one from your page content. That is sometimes fine, but you lose control over the pitch — and auto-generated snippets can pull an unhelpful sentence.

How long should it be?

Roughly 140 to 158 characters, or about 990 pixels. Mobile truncates sooner, so front-load the important part.

Want this done properly on your site?

These tools handle the checks. If you would rather someone did the work — the audit, the fixes and the content — that is what I do.
