Local SEO in 2026: How to Win the Google Map Pack

Why the map pack matters more than position one

For any business that serves a place, the local 3-pack sits above the organic results and absorbs the majority of clicks on mobile. Ranking first organically while sitting outside the map pack means losing most of the traffic before anyone scrolls.

1. Treat your Google Business Profile as a landing page

Fill in every field: primary and secondary categories, services with descriptions, service areas, hours, attributes and at least twenty original photos. Profiles with complete category and service data consistently out-rank thin ones in the same radius.

2. Fix your NAP consistency before building citations

Name, address and phone must match character for character across every directory. Audit what already exists, correct the mismatches, and only then build new citations — otherwise you are scaling an inconsistency.

3. Build real location pages

One page per location with unique copy, embedded map, local schema, staff photos and genuinely local content. Spun templates with the city name swapped out do not hold rankings.

4. Make reviews a process, not an afterthought

Ask every satisfied customer, at the moment they are most satisfied, with a short link. Respond to all of them. Review velocity and recency both feed local ranking.

5. Measure what actually happened

Track calls, direction requests and website clicks from the profile alongside your rankings in a local grid. Position without action is a vanity metric.
